The Chomolhari Trek also named as Jumolhari Trek gives you a glimpse of the mighty Himalayas, pine, rhododendron, and canopied forest. Mt. Chomolhari standing at an elevation of 7,314 m consists of sprawling yak pastures in the foreground. Jichu Darkey, Tserim Gang, and glaciers are the main attractions of the trek. In the summer season, this Chhomolhari trekking starting from (Drugyal Dzong) Paro and end at Dodena near Thimpu. The trail crosses throughout two different high passes from Jangothang. Jumolhari Mountain (7314m) from Jangothang looks stunning. The trek is a strenuous and popular trek in Bhutan which leads you the 4115m as the highest point.
Day 01: Arrival and Sightseeing in Paro (2,250m)
The flight ends with a spectacular landscape of mountain ranges: Dichu Drake and Jumolhari peaks. You will be greeted and welcomed by our company’s representative at Paro Airport. They will lead you and take to the standard Hotel of Paro. After having lunch at the Hotel, we will visit the National Museum, Ta Dzong which consists of all the traditional customs, art, crafts, sculptures, musical instrument and old guns and bullets. Tonight, we will stay at Paro, singing and dancing together in the evening.
Day 02: Tiger’s Nest Monastery Hiking and Return to Paro (3,180 m)
After morning breakfast, we hike towards Taktsang monastery which is Bhutan’s oldest and famous one. Generally, people named it as ‘Tiger’s Nest Monastery.’ The Monastery is situated at an elevation of 3,100 m from the sea level. It’s splendid hiking high up to the Monastery. There’s a mystery that in the 8th century Guru Rinpoche flew on the back of Tigress for meditation where the Monastery is now standing. Feel the Monastery, explore it and get back to your Hotel for tonight.
Day 03: Paro to Shana Trek (2,850 m): 15 km, 5-6 hours
Today’s trekking begins after a drive to Drukyel Dong. It’s terrific getting inside the apple forest. The valley widens, and after a few minutes, we reach army check-post of Gunitsewa (2,810 m). The trail is ascending towards Sharma Zampa(2,870m). As soon as you reach there, you can find several right camping places. Overnight stay at Shana.
Day 04: Shana to Sio Thangthangkha (3,750 m): 20 km, 7-8 hours
The path is ascending and descending following Paro river, pine, oak and rhododendron forest. You will be served a hot lunch after crossing the bridge. Then, we climb the Rhododendron forest and cross the bridge again. Finally, we reach the campsite at an elevation of 3,750 m. Overnight stay at the tent, enjoying with fire, singing and dancing together.
Day 05: Sio Thangthangkha to Jangothang (4,040 m): 19 km, 7-8 hours
We hike above the army camp following the river above the tree line. A short walk towards the valley offers you stunning views of mountain peaks, and villages. Finally, we reach the camp at Jangothang at 4,040 m. The landscapes of Mt. Jumolhari and Jichu Drake are splendid.
Day 06: Acclimatization Day at Jangothang Base Camp
Today is the day of acclimatization. You can hike towards the Jumolhari Base Camp and trek towards the central valley of Jichu Drake. Also, you’ve got the option to increase to Tsophu, a lake full of brown trout. Tonight stay attent.
Day 07: Jangothang to Lingshi (4,000 m): 18 km, 7-8 hours
We start the day climbing the ridge from where we can observe spectacular views of Jichu Drake, Tshering Gang and Jumolhari. We head towards the Ngye Pass situated at an elevation of 4,830 m. Then, the trail is descents to the Linchi Camp. Enjoy the marvellous views of significant peaks and Linchi Dzong lying at an altitude of 4,100 m. Overnight stay at the tent, eat, sing and dance together.
Day 08: Lingshi to Shodu (4,100 m): 22 km, 8-9 hours
Today’s route is ascending and descending. The trail begins with a climb towards a small chorten on a ridge. Going deep into the south Mo Chhu valley is exciting. After crossing the river and treeless valley, we reach Yeli La pass (4,820m). The crystal unobstructed views of Jumolhari, Gangchen Ta, Tshering Gang and Masang Gang. Day 09: Shodu to Barshong (3,600 m): 16 km, 6-7 hours
Following the path through Thimpu river, we descend through rhododendron, juniper and alpine forest. You can observe stunning views of waterfalls and rocks. The trail ascends through the riverside of Barshong Dzong at an elevation of 3,600 m. Overnight stay at the tent, singing dancing and enjoying together.
Day 10: Barshong to Dolam Kencho (3,600 m): 15 km, 5-6 hours
Today’s trail is short and descending. Early in the morning, you will be falling through Rhododendron, Birch and conifers forest dropping down to the Thimphu Chhu. Then, we trek towards Dolam Kencho which is pastureland at 3,320 m. We shall stay overnight at tent.
Day 11: Dolam Kencho to Dodena to Thimpu (2,350 m): 8 km, 3-4 hours
We drive to Thimphu after trekking around Dodena at an elevation of 2,640 m. In the afternoon time, we will roam around the Thimphu city, get in depth about people’s culture and tradition. Also, walk around monasteries and temples. Overnight stay at a standard hotel of Thimpu.
Day 12: Final Departure
The ending day of the trek, today we bid farewell and transfer to the Hotel early in the morning. Generally, the Druk Air flies early in the morning to avoid the unclear whether of the afternoon and the night.
