Kathmandu Vallley Sightseeing Tour

Kathmandu valley sightseeing tour has an exotic saroundings, it is bounded by tier upon tier of green hilly walls above which tower mightly snow covered hills. Kathmandu Valley covers 218m square miles. It is situated at 1310 meter above sea level. Kathmandu valley contains three fabled cities of great historic, religious and cultural interest. Kathmandu, Patan and Bhaktapur called as a Kantipur, Lalitpur and Bhadgaun. In this Kathmandu valley every town has Durbar square (old Royal palace) with its old temples and palaces, epitomizes the religious and cultural life of the people. The valley has often been described as an open air art gallery with thousands of scattered throughout it.

Kathmandu Durbar squar

While browse around Kathmandu Durbar square you will visit Hanuman Dhoka, the old and historic palace of Kathmandu named after monkey god Hanuman. It is very old history of royalty. The kings of Nepal are crowned and their coronations also held inside the courtyard here. There is a statue of King Pratap Malla sitting on the stone pillar in the front and temple of Jagannath from mediaeval period.

The walking distance you will find the tall temple of Taleju from 1549AD, the large stone black stone statue of Kal Bhairav, lord Shiva and his consort parvati peeping from window. Travel around the temples of Kumari known as living place of living goddess within the vicinity. The Kumari means the virgin girl. The girl is selected from Buddhist family the building has profusely carved wooden balconies and window screen. Next a very interesting temple is Kastamandap which is believed to be built from a single tree trunk and the name Kathmandu is delivered from this temple.

Swyambhunath stupa (Monkey Temple)

This is a 2500 years old stupa situated on a hillock about 80m above the ground level and over looking Kathmandu valley. The painted eyes on four sides represent the all seeing eyes of Buddha and are watching all the time wrong doers and good doers. This is a very religious shrine of Buddhists. There are two Buddhist monasteries within the complex and temple of Haratima where both Buddhists and Hindus worship this temple. The shrine is just 3km to the northwest of Kathmandu.

Baudhanath Stupa

Baudhanath stupa is one of the holiest and most memorable sites in Kathmandu. Assigned UNESCO world heritage status in 1979, the Stupa has a height of 36 meters and diameter of 120 meters, making it the largest in Nepal and one of the largest in the world. It has a tall central spire from which colorful prayer flags are draped and is built on an octagonal base surrounded by scores of prayer wheels. There has been a stupa on this site since Tibetan King Songsten Gampo transformed to Buddhism in around 600AD.

Baudhanath is rich in Symbolism; it has five statues Dhyani Baudhas, representing the five elements (Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Forest) nine levels representing Mount Meru the mythical peak at the centre of the Baudhanath cosmos, and 13 rings from its base to its apex or representing the steps to enlightenment or Nirvana.

Baudhanath is the religious centre of Nepal’s Tibetan Buddhist community and it is surrounded by 50 monasteries and shops settling Tibetan art effects. Look out for the Tibetan monks with shaven heads and wearing maroon robes and pilgrims spinning prayer wheels and buying yak butter and Tsampa (Roasted barley floor). A trip to Baudhanath is a perfect antidote to the hustle and bustle of centre Kathmandu. Be careful to observe Tibetan custom by walking around Stupa in a clockwise.

Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath temple is a Hindu pilgrimage place ant it is astonishing architectural beauty stands as a symbol of faith religion, culture and tradition. Regarded as the most scared temple of Hindu God Lord Shiva in the World, Pashupati temple existence dates back to 400Ad, the richly ornamented Pagoda houses the sacred Linga or Phallic symbol of Lord Shiva. Thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to pay homage to this temple that is also known as the temple of Living Beings.

This temple is located 5 km northeast of Kathmandu. This temple was World Cultural heritage site from 1979 Ad, the Pasupati place era to 400AD. It has unique features has only four priests appointed by king can touch the idol of Lord Shiva. The priests are always from South India and it is believed that tradition have been started be sage Shankaracharya in 16th century.

In Pashupatinath Temple we can see Gold painted images of guardian deities, four faced statue of God Shiva, Chadesvar or an inscribed Lichhavi Linga from 7th century. Brahma Temple, Aryaghat or cremation site, Gauri ghat or Holi Bath, Dharmasthali or Stone where sacred oaths are taken, 15 Shivalaya or 15 Shrines, Gorakhnath Temples, Surya Ghat, Bhairab temple and many more …..
